The holiday season is all about family, friends, fun and food.
(And alliteration, apparently!)
Honey and pineapple glazed ham, slow cooked pork with crackling, mouthwatering turkey with cranberry sauce, roast vegetables with rosemary and sea salt, fresh seafood, green beans with breadcrumbs.. The list goes on, and I have to stop because I am starting to drool just thinking about it all!
Part of the fun of all of this delicious food is finding the perfect wine to pair it with!
That’s where this handy 12 day guide comes in!
Over the next 12 days leading up to Christmas (that’s right, there’s only 12 days until Christmas – it’s ok to freak out now), I will post my tips for some of my favourite wines and how they can make your day 100% better, at least!
Starting with one of my favourite Yarra Valley wines;
This is a delicious example of why the Yarra Valley excels in Chardonnay.
On the Eye: Pale straw yellow with the slightest green hue
On the Nose: Fresh apple, pear and white peach
In the Mouth: Crisp and fruit driven, mirroring the fruit aromas
A fresh twist on the creamy, butterscotch flavours and aromas we tend to expect from a Chardonnay, this fruit driven handpicked wine definitely deserves the 97 point James Halliday rating it was awarded for the 2015 Top 100 selection.
This Chardonnay would pair very well with soft cheeses such as a brie or camembert, so is the perfect wine to start your Christmas Day celebrations, snacking on a cheese platter!
At $36 a bottle, the 2014 Oakridge LVS Chardonnay is sure to be a crowd pleaser, even with those guests who claim not to enjoy Chardonnay! Trust me (and James Halliday)!
It’s well worth a visit to the Oakridge Cellar Door, but if you don’t have the chance before the big day, grab a bottle or 6 online at the Oakridge website.
